Bulgaria, Rila Mountains, Borovets


Borovets is the oldest winter resort in Bulgaria, with a history dating back to 1896. Borovets was created in the late 19th century as a hunting ground for kings of Bulgaria. The resort has twice hosted rounds of World Cup alpine skiing (1981 and 1984), while thebiathlon track is one of the best in the world. Borovets is now the largest and most modern resort in Bulgaria.

Located in the bordering Borovets col and on the northern slopes of the Cordillera Musala in the eastern partof Rila. Huddled in venerable pine woods 1390 meters above sea level (with more tracks to 2600 m) makes it an ideal place for relaxation and recreation.

The climate is considered healthy. Winter in the city is mild and of course with lots of snow! The average temperature during the coldest month of January is 4.8 ° C. Usually, the slopes of Borovets have snow for amid December to April. The air in Borovets is clear, free of contaminants.
Borovets is also easy access to 12 kilometers long first class road, connects it with Samokov, Sofia (the capital of Bulgaria) is only 72 miles away.

There is regular bus transport to Samokov every 30 minutes.
